RedNote (Xiaohongshu) Content Capture: Building a Benchmark Post Pool With a Browser Extension

Key takeaways

  • Pick benchmark accounts first: same niche, similar or one tier larger audience, steady posting, 10 to 15 accounts in total.
  • Decide whether a post is worth saving by its save-to-like ratio and the questions in its comments, not by likes alone.
  • On the post page, click "Save note" in the Beav browser extension so the caption, images, video, visible comments and engagement numbers go into the knowledge base together. Check the result, then tag it.
  • Clean the pool regularly: move used posts into your topics and delete what you never open.

Many people manage benchmark material with bookmarks and a screenshot album. When they need an early viral post from a competitor, they scroll for ages and cannot find it. Bookmarks and screenshots only record that you saw something; they do not keep what you can use. This guide shows how to turn bookmarks into a pool you actually use, with a browser extension.

Step 1: decide who to benchmark

Before any tool, answer one question: which accounts are you learning from?

Filter with three criteria:

  • Same niche. This one is obvious.
  • Similar audience size, or one tier larger. An account with a million followers and one with twenty thousand get completely different traffic. Copying a big account's approach often does not work. Learn structure from accounts your size and direction from the next tier up.
  • Steady posting. You cannot see patterns in an account that posts on and off.

Keep the list short: 10 to 15 accounts. More than that and you will not keep up.

Step 2: decide what is worth saving

High likes do not always mean worth learning. Likes might come from a pretty cover or lucky timing, which you cannot repeat.

Look at these signals instead:

  • Saves compared with likes. Many saves means the content is practical.
  • Follow-up questions in the comments. What readers ask shows what the post left out. Those questions are often your next topic, so always save them with the post.
  • How readers share and discuss it. It shows who they want to convince or what problem they want to solve.

Step 3: capture with the extension

Use Chrome or Edge on your computer, install the Beav extension, and keep the Beav desktop app running. For each post:

  1. Open the post page and wait for images and video to load. Do not capture from a thumbnail.
  2. Click "Save note". The caption, author, images, video, the comments visible on the page, and the like, save and comment counts go into your Beav knowledge base together with the source link.
  3. Check it: is the source link there, is the image count right, were the comments saved? Capturing before the page finishes loading can miss images.
  4. Tag it by account and topic.

To save many at once, the extension also does batch capture: collect by keyword on Xiaohongshu search results, collect the posts on the current feed page, or click "Collect creator notes" on a creator's profile. Batch tasks run with random intervals. If you hit a verification page or loading errors, stop and continue later rather than pushing your account too hard.

To keep following a few benchmark accounts, use Beav's creator subscriptions. Once subscribed, new posts are synced into your knowledge base every day. This uses credits, so save it for your most important accounts.

Installation and connection are covered on the Xiaohongshu capture extension page.

What bookmarks and screenshots lose

The main problem with bookmarks is that they depend on the original post. If the author deletes it or the platform changes something, the bookmark stops working, and you never kept the original images.

Screenshots lose even more: no video, incomplete comments, no engagement numbers from that day. Worst of all, screenshots are not searchable. Finding one coffee post among hundreds of images comes down to memory.

Step 4: clean up regularly

A bigger pool is not a better pool. Clean it once a week:

  • Posts you have already broken down and used for a draft move from the pool into your topics, marked "this structure has been used".
  • Posts you have not opened for two weeks get deleted.

It feels wrong at first, but a pool where things only go in fills up with old posts you have already seen, and you stop opening it.

Keep tags simple: platform, niche and status are enough, and search handles the rest.

This takes time at first: about half an hour to capture ten posts and twenty minutes to clean up. After two or three weeks it becomes a habit and finding material gets much faster. For how to organize material once it is saved, see local AI asset management and knowledge base.

The pool covers your input. To break saved posts down and write your own versions, see viral post breakdown and rewriting. The full path from capture to publishing is in the 2026 Xiaohongshu AI marketing guide.

If you have thousands of bookmarks, download Beav and the browser extension, capture ten benchmark posts completely, and compare that with your bookmark folder.
